Maintenance of genome stability is
indispensable for health of cells. Since DNA is continually
damaged, accumulation of DNA damage results in mutations that cause
defects in transcription, replication, and cell cycle
progression. Unless the DNA damage is repaired, cells undergo
premature aging, cancer, and a variety of genetic diseases. It is
necessary to determine the mechanisms of DNA repair and maintenance of
genome stability to solve biological problems in humans. To avoid
cancer formation, proper cell cycle regulation is also essential.
In order to contribute to human health care, especially cancer and aging
research, our research is focused on DNA repair pathways responsible
for genome stability and related to human diseases.
